Barren land of snow topped mountains? Maybe, but the valley in Norsca where the Summit was held was very warm and picturesque.
It was also filled with undead.
In the centre of the valley was a small wood. In the wood, which had been marked off as 'forbidden forest, do not enter' (just to ensure the curious would go in) was a portal to a place filled with undead. From this portal regular undead attacks poured. For added joy this portal kept trying to pull people in who would then return as undead. At first this was mostly ignored, but then people realised the bar was under threat and the resistance got organised fairly quickly.
In the mercenary camp we had representatives of the Lion azure, the Acoatl, the Black Company, the Merchant Militia and even a small group of pirates (don't know their affiliation). We successfully fought off an attack by undead on the Saturday afternoon, though we were lucky in that they seemed to be relatively weak for undead.
Early on the Friday the Fir Cruthen camp was busy with a meet to decide the leadership of the nations. In the end it was decided that Aengus McAirem of the fae would be the new high king. The raiding party to Erin had gone well, relieving some of the Greenskin pressure, some of the people that had gone with him had suffered strange effects from the journey.
The whole reason for the meet was for the generals and other senior personnel to plan the future of the campaign against the Greenskins. Don't know what was discussed there as mercenaries weren't invited. During one of the sessions it turned out that Max, one of the delegates from the Jhereg, wasn't Max at all - it was a Greenskin hengeyokai spy masquerading as Max. The spy was dealt with in a permanent way.
Later
on the Saturday Lord Velarkin of the Wolves fell during an undead attack. This
has left a bit of a power vacuum within the Wolf leadership with two people
vying for the leader's role. Both Bothvar and Balba have been accepted by the
gods as suitable for leadership.
On the Sunday the Wolf camp was attacked by a large undead force that taxed the defences and defenders. The force was large enough to detach a small group to attack the mercenary camp. In the ensuing fight ten or so mercenaries lost their lives defending the camp - almost all of those present at the time. Hopefully this will be a lesson to us all in the mercenary camp - we must be prepared to defend our camp at all times and need to co-ordinate those defences.
Actually took a lot of piccies - but as it was one of the causes of the mercenary massacre I must remember not to use the camera in future;-)
