The following is a short history of the birth of Kolton with links to bios for the band members via the pictures.

Putting Kolton together not only required musicians with a certain level of skill, but also a mind set that would ensure that the songs being played were not just from the standard cover band grab-bag and that each arrangement, while still recognisable to fans of the original, had a fresh outlook that would label it as something "Koltonish".

The first line-up included Vocal, Drummer, Keyboard and Guitar.

The first few attempts at trying to get musicians who were not only of a particular calibre, but also of like minds and reliable did not work out. The lack of good Bass players generally meant that the Keyboard player would have to take over that role, requiring them to play more than normal.

Various issues with tardiness (quite common with musicians when practice time comes) and levels of incompetence being quickly attained meant that various members fell rapidly by the way side and it seemed as if there wouldn't be enough members round long enough to ensure that the band got out of the rehearsal room and onto the stage.

The inclusion of Trevor, soon followed by Liam (who thought he was only coming along for a couple of sessions to show the current guitarist how to do the songs right) ensured that the melodic section of Kolton could now live up to Tashan's expectations, but the rhythm section was only being provided by a backing singer doing a bit of percussion.

Snatching T.K. from the rest of the world was the coup de grāce required to give the band a fighting chance and suddenly things started clicking together.

Tashan now says that he "Feels in the right place with the right people" and this is evident in the way the band has progressed as a unit since settling on this final format.

After 1 month putting a short set together, Kolton's first outing was at the Lyrically Justified open mic event being held at Carpe Diem in Leeds. 6 Songs later there was no doubt that they could do this music stuff and do it well enough to entertain people.

Kolton's first full gig in the Fox And Newt (opposite Park Lane College, Leeds) left them a bit stymied. The audience absolutely loved what they were hearing and wanted an encore. Not thinking that anyone would want such a green band to keep playing,

there were no reserve songs for an encore. The solution was to play a selection from the first set!

They've got a few more songs in the bag now and absolutely don't mind hearing screams for "MORE" any more.

After doing a couple more gigs, it was decided in December 2006 to get a demo done with a small selection that would showcase the band for prospective venues and to take a little time polishing up their performance skills as well as their musicianship.
