As if you'd forget
that goal. The 20 yard screamer, the injury time winner or the
neat little chip over Peter Schmeichel in the 5-0 win.
Toon-Army.net's Top 3 Goals in descending order.
3. Phillipe Albert v Manchester United
"Well if the rest was the cake, there was the icing, a
quite majestic goal from Phillipe Albert." - Andy Gray.
Couldn't have put it any better myself. 4-0 up at home to Manchester
United with 5 minutes to go, why not try a 25 yard chip over
Peter Schmeichel and see if you can root him to the spot? Thats
what King Phillpe tried, and pulled it off with 100% perfection
to send the geordie fans into more hysteria.
2. Alan Shearer v Everton
1-0 down to Everton at St James Park with 5 minutes to go. After
having all of the play since their goal around the 15 minute
mark there had to be a break through, to which it came 5 minutes
from time. After a 50 yard cross field pass onto the head off
Shola Ameobi, a perfect precision pass onto Alan Shearer's right
boot 20 yards out found the net at 65mph and finally a shot
had beat Richard Wright that afternoon.
Shearer said: "I dont even know why I hit it, any other
time it would have went into Row Z, but lucky for me and Newcastle
this one went in."
The game finished 2-1 to Newcastle with a Craig Bellamy goal
on 90 minutes, but the rest as they say, is history.
1. Craig Bellamy v Feyenoord
This one just wins it for the importance of it. After a free
kick by Dabizas is pumped upfield and theres a flick on by Shearer,
a pull down by Dyer, a dummy past a defender and a shot could
this be 3 - 2 to Newcastle?....The keeper pulls of a brilliant
save...Craig Bellamy runs in and....SCORES from an impossible
angle. Newcastle go through to the second round of the Champions
League in such dramatic fashion.
