Peruvian international Nolberto Solano is a right sided central
midfielder. After being signed back in summer 1998 by former
boss Kenny Dalglish, he quickly impressed the Newcastle faithful
with his pace, close control and cracking shot.
He takes an excellent free-kicks and developed a reputation
in South America as a set-piece specialist. As captain of the
national side, there is now keen attention paid to all Newcastle
games back in Peru.
Solano was a mainstay of United's 2001/02 season, missing just
one of their 52 games, and scoring 12 goals from midfield.
