Quinn
rose through the Sheffield United youth system and impressed
Premiership and England scouts alike. Glen Hoddle included him
in his 1998 summer senior squad having seen him play in the
national B-side and Under-21 team.
However, injury disrupted his 2001/02 season, and there were
rumours around Christmas time that he would be leaving St James
Park. He denied those stories and promised to stay and fight
for his place, though he made only eight first team appearances,
six of which were in the Intertoto Cup.
During the transfer window of Januray 2003, Quinn returned to
Sheffield, to join the Blades on loan in a bid to kick start
his first team career at Newcastle.
