Brian
made a tough choice as a Scot - he had a chance to join Glasgow
Rangers as a youth player but he chose Newcastle United instead.
He has never regretted his decision, especially after making
his Premiership debut for Newcastle in the 2000-2001 season.
This highly-rated fledging talent did well enough in his initial
spell with Newcastle to earn a three-year contract shortly after
his 17th birthday. He has since signed an extended deal at St
James' Park.
Before he turned professional, Brian operated as a striker but
he moved into midfield when he joined the Edinburgh club Hibernian
as a 12-year-old. He went on to captain the Newcastle Youth
side and has won Schoolboy and Youth caps with Scotland.
