Shay Given was Blackburn's number 2 keeper, and found it impossible
to get in ahead of Tim Flowers.
Shay initially was on loan from Blackburn at Sunderland where
his performances played a large part in the Wearsiders promotion
to the Premiership. Shay decided to follow Kenny Dalglish to
Newcastle, where first team action also enabled him to further
his international career with the Republic of Ireland, to where
his is now their number 1.
After becoming Newcastle's number 1 with his outstanding shot-stopping
abilities, Given has became one of the best Barclaycard Premiership's
keepers.
