Leslie Foster (Senior Driller Blue Diamond Drilling Ltd) A great many years ago when I worked for Drilling Prospecting International I remember one day having to clear out a storage shed full of old files and old photo's of drill rigs including many of horse and steam powered rigs, unfortunately they all ended up in a rubbish skip. I have over many years come to regretted this loss of drilling history, if you have any old pictures please e-mail a copy to me so that I can put them up on my website so that others can see and copy them ensuring that they will never be lost like the DPI ones.
A little more about me I have been in the drilling game since 1970, I started of working for Drilling Prospecting International (DPI) based near Warwick, I started as third man on a Gryphon 5 rigs, later on I transferred over to the parent company Cementation still as third man on BBS 10's and Reich rigs, I left in 1972 for a job in a local quarry as driller/shot firer. In August 1973 I joined the drilling section of Blue Circle Cement as a drillers assistant, in 1974 I was made up to a trainee driller and later in the same year I made driller. I worked for Blue Circle until the drilling section was closed down at the end of June 1988, in my time with the company I worked all over the UK and on a number of overseas drilling projects including three six month trips to Nigeria, six months in Oman, fifteen month trip to Kenya and nine months in South Africa. When the drilling section closed down there was a management buyout and on July 1st 1988 the section became Blue Diamond Drilling Ltd, I still travel all over the UK but sadly the over sea's work is no more.
