Bearsden Gains LTA Clubmark Award!

Bearsden Lawn Tennis Club has become one of the first member's clubs in Scotland to gain the LTA Clubmark Accreditation Award. The award signifies LTA approval of the club's coaching plans and activities on court and that best practice policies and procedures are in place off court. Activities covered by the award included the club's year round coaching programme and links with local schools. The club gives curriculum time 'tennis taster' sessions in three primary schools. Last week, for example, the entire 47 strong P3 class at Bearsden Primary came to enjoy an afternoon 'tennis festival' at the club in Jubilee Gardens organised with the help of Active School Sports coordinator Catriona Shields and run by club coach Gordon Wilson.
To qualify for the award the club committee had to consider every aspect of the club's activities in the light of LTA guidance on best practice and provide evidence that the club was doing all the right things.
Clubmark approval indicates that the club's coaches have appropriate qualifications and that child protection, equity, health and safety and volunteer management issues have been addressed.

The Clubmark Award was presented to the club by Tennis Scotland Tennis Development Manager Mike Cohen on Saturday 12th September 2009. Mike congratulated Bearsden on being the first club run by its members in the West of Scotland, where play is based on outdoor courts, to receive this award.
