IF YOU HAVE ANY STORIES TO TELL OF WHAT YOU, OR YOUR RELATIVES LIFE WAS LIKE WHILE SERVING IN EAST AFRICA THEN WHY NOT SHARE THEM WITH US.

A sad tale from Len: I remember one particular story my late father told me of his time at Eastleigh Nairobi. It concerned an Airman who once killed a snake that had some how got into the barracks. That particular night, after killing the snake, the Airman was asleep in his bed with one arm hanging out of the sheets. It can only be assumed that the mate of the dead snake sought its revenge and so came into the barracks and bite the Airman's arm. Unfortunately the bite was fatal.

On a lighter note: My Father, being a Smith (almost all of the Smiths in my family have, or are in their own business), has always been enterprising and never missed an opportunity for making money. So it was no surprise when he often told us another story of how he and a pal of his (Tommy Grills) came up with a money making scheme which involved making tin soldiers from pieces of scrap from the workshop, painting them and then selling the finished products to a toy shop in Nairobi. He and Tommy could often be seen running from the workshop to the paint shop carrying an old door with the finished products concealed beneath a piece of tarpaulin
