Solaria

Then and Now

A thousand years ago a great empire spanned hundreds of worlds in the Gamma Quadrant. Though its origins lay in conquest, the Suolor Empire had become a place of freedom and diversity long before the Federation was even conceived. Then the Dominion came...

Solaria is a region of the Gamma quadrant recently vacated by the Dominion following the end of the war eight years ago. Though still populated by many space-faring races, much of the resources that made the region so attractive to the Dominion have been depleted. Cultures across the area have been left in turmoil after years of slavery and persecution, leading to much political and social unrest.

Dar Nolich is Starfleet’s only Gamma Quadrant installation, lying on the outermost edge of the sector. It takes about a day in a passenger shuttle to get to the Bajoran wormhole from Dar Nolich.

The Species

The Armayans Under Dominion rule they were all enslaved together. When their masters left, the five races of the Armayan system made war upon each other as they had done centuries before. Many realised it would only be a matter of time before they destroyed themselves, and out of this desperation a new regime was formed.

The citizens of the Armayan Union accept the same rigid conformity that they did under Dominion war, rather than return to their war-faring ways. As a mono-cultural civilization they are the opposite of the Federation, and this is why they fear and hate us so much.

The Armayans have come to possess advanced bio-weaponry acquired from rogue elements among humans and the Suolor. These have been used previously to launch attacks against the Norvan and the Egreshi, the Armayans' closest neighbours.

The Suolor Once the most powerful species in the region, the Suolor have managed to retain much of their culture and traditions by pulling back into what was once the deepest parts of their space. They are probably the most technologically advanced of all species in Solaria, but cracks are starting to show as it becomes clear they are not immune to Solaria's problems.

Each of the dozen Suolor worlds has its own monarchs, but like hundreds of generations before them these monarchs swear allegiance to one High King. In general the Suolor are respectful and honourable, if somewhat conservative. They are polite and formal almost to irritation. Most Suolor are in favour of the Federation's involvement in the quadrant.

Recent events have started to throw doubt on the apparent political stability of the Suolor. At least one King is believed to have approved the sale of weapons technology to the Armayans, and many questions remain unanswered.

The Egreshi Short, thin, ornate looking and green. The Egreshi are currently an interstellar punching bag for the Armayan war-fleet. The Egreshi are an advanced civilisation of forest people. They have a very old culture, steeped in mysticism, they are known as a race of survivors. They used to live on several colonies, having only limited contact with outsiders. With the Armayans now conducting ethnic cleansing on their doorstep, Dar Nolich has seen a mass exodus of Egreshi refugees turning up on their doorstep. Egreshi always find it difficult to ask for or accept help. Generally speaking, they are the good guys.
Norvan Another race who are being mass exterminated by the Armayans. We don’t know a whole lot about them yet.

Recent Events

The Armayan union commenced a war against the Egreshi and Norvan peoples recently, and are currently wiping out entire colonies of these civilizations using fusion bombs and biogenic weapons believed to have originated from the Suolor. Prior to its destruction the USS Aegis-A  acted against Starfleet orders to launch a mission to the Armayan homeworld, rescuing a number of Starfleet hostages and destroying much of the biogenic weapons stored. Many issues remain unresolved.

The Federation has now largely retreated from the Gamma Quadrant following the failed mass-rebellion by numerous Starfleet officers encouraged by the 'terrorist' Sanys Charis.
