Character Help: Creating A Character and Biography

Creating your Biography
You need to create bio for your character. This can be one of the most fulfilling and exciting parts when joining a RPG. Your bio is basically a fact file and guide to your character and their past. You need a lot of detail in it, and need to remember that you might want to play this character for a long time.

The following is a bio template. Copy and paste it into your word processor and add in the detail for your character, or use the online form. Then send it off to legacy@ntlworld.com

We will then get back to you within a few days.

  • Character Name:
  • Race:
  • Age:

FURTHER HELP ON WRITING YOUR BIO! if needed.

Character Name:

This is pretty easy :-) Just fiddle around with some words you see around you if you can't think of interesting names,

Race:

Any Federation Race is OK, but the addition of a character from a non-Federation races such as Cardassian, Ferengi, Orion or Borg or a made up race must be fully discussed with the group. Some useful races include, Terran, Bajoran, Vulcan, Trill or Klingon. Remember your character could be a cross between two races so long as it is explained fully in your bio. This can make for some very interesting problems and interaction.

Age:

The age of your character should be realistic. Ensigns are usually 21 at the youngest up to their late thirties. Lieutenants and Lieutenant j.g are for people in their late twenties and thirties. You don't start getting commanders until the late thirties, and those are the high fliers. Captains have to be over forty.

Yet characters move through Starfleet at different rates and may not join until later. You can explain any strange age in your bio.

Physical Description:

This section must be enhanced if the player wishes to invent a new race.

You need to talk about height, weight, eye colour, hair colour, skin pigmentation, general fitness, scars, piercings, what sort of clothes they wear and anything else you want to include. For new races or hybrids you should include detailed descriptions or a separate section about the race.

Personality:

An opportunity to put down any behavioural points, which would allow others to play your character, how you perceive them. How does your character act under a certain stimuli? Have they picked up any quirks, likes dislikes and what are their character flaws and strengths? For example what do they do when they are nervous?

Remember that characters need flaws. We will not approve any character who doesn't have flaws of some sort. Whether they are a complete bitch, a gossip, a bit stupid, shy, nervous, or plain nasty, every character has some flaws. And it makes it much easier when playing the game.

Personal notes:

Add anything else about them here. The thing that might be included:

- Interests and hobbies

- Religious/moral beliefs.

- You character's sexual orientation if relevent.

Background:

All the important history that makes them who they are. Why are they in Starfleet? What ships have they served on? What was their childhood like?

Training:

Where they went to school, what they were good at. I advise you to think carefully before having someone 'top of the class' or a 'perfect student' unless you plan to say have them fallen from that position or become an alcoholic since, or maybe they never had a social life because of it. Characters who have no flaws don't work. Remember that your character will change developing as he/she interacts and becomes part of the game. this can be one of the most compelling aspects of a RPG.

Major:
Minor:

These are the main subjects from the academy they studied and should match up at least partially with their positions.

Engineering, Astrogation, Security procedures, medicine, operations, tactical operations, psychology, temporal mechanics, General science, subspace theory, and others are good examples.

Personal skill:

These are skills learnt in other places or through hobbies. Also things like command skills learnt later in Starfleet career. Things like law, politics, music, social studies, arts and crafts, languages and life skills should fit in here.

1st choice of Position:
2nd choice of position:

Basically the following exist. You need to have the relevant skills in your bio.

Engineering
Medical
Operations
Science (including specialists)
Tactical
Security
Navigator
Counselor

Most of the senior positions are filled, so a lot of the time you will be in a deputy position. You should check the crew roster to see what we have. Feel free to make suggestions for positions, or ask for help.

Rank: (Ensign)

We start just about everyone as an Ensign, although rank isn't as important as in other groups. You might be a crewman for some positions, or higher if we have higher positions vacant. No player is more important than another.

Your Real Name:
Your e-mail Address:

Comes in handy! This is where the emails for the group will be sent to by our mailing list, and the address you *must* post from. If you have more than one account which you want messages to be sent from (so you can catch up with the group at home and work/school/college for example) then we can sort that out for you.
