Farnborough

Farnborough started out as an experiment to see if I could make AI trains stop at stations without the need to manual intervention. So I took the layout of my local station, Farnborough, and tried to apply the idea.

Farnborough is a two platform station with four running lines, two slow and two fast. On the slow lines, I have three signals, one on one line, and two on the other - the idea being that two trains can run round on the circular layout - one train stops at the station on one line, and when the other train pulls in, it will trigger a signal which allows the first train to leave. The second train stops at the station, and only starts when the first train triggers the signal on it's side. The signals are set far enough apart to allow both trains to stop at the station for about two minutes each.

Since there are only three signals, both trains run under amble (caution) control, and therefore only travel at half the line speed. To give these trains a better speed, I have upped the line speed along the route - for instance, on the approaches to the station, the line speed should be 40mph to allow the trains to stop. Since this is too slow, realistically, the line speed has been upped to 80mph. As these trains run under caution, the trains will then run at their true speed of 40mph, and still stop in the right places.

I will produce a map in due course, and here are some screenshots to give you an idea of the layout.
