The History Of The Muskham Players
In 1992, Martin Grant (new to the Village), and Al Myatt were chatting in The Crown, Muskham about Martin's trip to see "Les Miserables." The conversation led on to Martin's previous involvement with the Hambleton Players in Selby. They decided to try and create an amateur dramatic group in the village and call it the "The Muskham Players".
They delivered leaflets to the whole village, inviting people to a meeting in the Village Hall to see if there was sufficient interest in putting on a production. Approximately 50 people turned up, and with a stage purchased from a builder friend of Martin's, old bedroom curtains sewn together from the Edwalton Hotel in Nottingham and scenery borrowed from Al's school, the players put on their first production, "Dracula meets Babes in the Wood." The rest as they say is History!!!
We have welcomed many new members over the years, but would like to acknowledge the following people who were involved in the very first production, and are still members today.
Paul and Peggy Buck
As well as our debt to Martin and Al, we are also grateful to the Hambleton Players for their support in lending us backcloths and costumes, especially in the early years when money was in short supply.
