Biodiesel is a cheaper alternative to fossil fuels and can be used by many vehicles.

When changing to bio, the main thing is to ensure you have a few spare fuel filters on board and a 10mm spanner to bleed the fuel system. The bio is very effective at cleaning the fuel system and all the years of crud will be dislodged into the filter. When the filter blocks there will be fuel starvation and loss of power and eventually total stop. Replace the filter after 500miles, then 1000miles. then back to normal service intervals. Using neat B100 fuel in winter is only a good idea if you fit a fuel filter heater. This will warm the fuel to stop it pluggin/waxing the filter. Most users go for a 50/50 mix over the colder months.

The Diesel fuel preheater offers a effective and above all else, a permanent solution for this problem.

Diesel prevents the filterīs pores from clogging up at very low temperatures by warming the fuel with a small heating system, which is mounted in front of the filter. In a matter of seconds, the energy-rich paraffin crystals will dissolve and the fuel passes through the filter as if it would be summer.

Fuel additives can be done completely away with by installing Diesel heater. With it, temperature-related operating problems will be effectively eliminated from the fuel system.
 

To prevent cold problems or a loss of power due to a plugged fuel filter .The heater is activated by the driver with a On-/Off-switch. The heating process is displayed by a pilot lamp and automatically regulated by a thermostat. The heating of the fuel remains as long as the heating device is deactivated over the switch.

Alternative to the fuel filter Diesel-Heater can also be installed in front of fuel pumps, solenoid valves, etc. to preheat the fuel.

 

If your fuel injector spill rail pipes are made of  canvas covered rubber, then these should be changed to the newer plastic ones and the bio degrades rubber.

The 300tdi uses a Bosch VE injection pump which is the most robust rotary injection pump and requires no modification for use with biodiesel. If you plan to use vegtable oils, then a full heating system must be used or the pump seals will go.

The sedimentor on the Discovery/Defender is chassis mounted above the OSR wheel and this will require cleaning weekly during the transition.
