Additional Info:
Alice Fitton (nee Mather) wove and spun and Stanley sold material on a stall on Bury Market. They also had a sweets stall there and Alice (born 1866) used to run that. My Grandmother says " Alice used to do the market style calling and shout - coughballs, come and get your coughballs - which used to make me laugh as a child as it sounded silly. Alice later moved to Stockport, she didn't have any children. Before that she lived in Heywood and had a dog called Nellie, so we used to call her Auntie Nellie, she did marry later on. Her sister Betsie went to live in Middleton and also had no children. Tom (1874) was very tall, smart and handsome, he later lived at Herbers in Middleton. At some point the family owned what is now Rose Cottage in Simister, it used to be called Fitton Cottage."
