REIKI
Reiki is an ancient form of healing
which was re-discovered towards the end of the 19th century by Dr Usui. Reiki
(pronounced ray-key is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. It is not
attached to any religion and is suitable for everyone.
How does it
work?
The Reiki therapist channels this energy through his or
her hands to the recipient, activating the body's natural healing ability. The
energy flows to wherever it is needed the most, releasing blocked energies,
cleansing the body of toxins, relieving stress and re-creating a natural state
of balance. Reiki reinforces the patient's ability to take responsibility for
his or her life and assists in the necessary changes in attitude and lifestyle
to promote a happier and healthier life.
What happens during a
treatment?
Reiki is simple and non-invasive, each session takes
between one and one an a half hours. The recipient normally either lies down or
sit on a comfortable chair, fully clothed. The therapist gently places his or
her hands in various positions over the recipient's body. Each position is held
for between 3 and 5 minutes.
What does it feel
like?
When undergoing a treatment you may experience heat from
the therapist hands or a slight tingling in the area being treated. Normally
after a short period as the energy comes into balance, stress and tension is
released and in its place a deep sense of relaxation develops.
Can
it do any harm?
Reiki greatly enhances the effectiveness of all
other treatments, whether conventional medicine or complementary therapy. It
has been used safely for thousands of years and is used in some well-known
hospitals / clinics in the UK.
What benefits can be
experienced?
Some of the benefits you can experience after Reiki
treatment include ease of tension and promotes relaxation, inner piece, self
healing, boost the immune system, help with bereavement, improve sleep pattern,
soothe pain and improve joint mobility, reduces the effect of trauma, support
other complementary therapies and medical treatments.
