| Mile of Triumphs 2009 |
Can I say "thank-you" to you good ladies and gents out there four nine hundred times, as that is the amount that this event will have raised for our nominated charity "East Anglia's Childrens Hospices". We raised £4,550 prior to and over the weekend, and Aviva (my employer) very kindly gave £350 as a post-event donation. Recession, or no recession, this spectacularly breaks all our previous records in raising money for charity.
Of course, the exceptionally good weather over the whole weekend helped, as it drew in a lot of people who decided to come "on-spec" rather than pre-booking. We had about 190 cars on the field on both the Saturday and the Sunday. This is not just a record turnout - it is incredible. Because the show is open to all classic cars - not just Triumphs - there was a great spectrum of different marques to be seen. From Jaguars and Alvises to MGs, Fords, Rovers, and unusual modern cars such as the Nissan Figaro. From an observers viewpoint our large field was full of cars, a large proportion of which were in outstanding condition.
Due to illness, there was a decrease in our small band of volunteers who were manning the stalls, the checking-in gate, and directing the cars to their parked positions were stretched to their limit. However, with the help of Dean's Venture Scouts and to friends outside of the club, the event went smoothly. Thank you one and all.
Thanks also to the large number of people from the TSSC executive who came down to see the event and also to man the TSSC Club shop. We appreciate the recognition from the club that this event generates. We also appreciate TSSC Head Office in printing the programmes and scenic route guides.
We would also like to acknowledge our two main corporate sponsors - Adrian Flux Insurance and Spire Norwich Hospital. Their donations covered the major cost of the Concours trophies and the Rally plates.
We were entertained by both the martial arts display and by the musicians who were playing throughout the Saturday.
We had almost as many stands as we had last year - tombola, bottle raffle, cakes, children's lucky dip, hoopla, bric a brac, the teddy bear tombola, cards and crafts and books. The TSSC Club Shop's stand was busy selling spares, accessories, and regalia.
Both the burger van and the ice cream van were busy throughout the day, as was the beer stand. Two kegs of beer were kindly donated by Broad Farm's suppliers and due to demand owing to the hot weather, supplies were exhausted well before the end of Saturday afternoon.
Claire Hill from the TSSC Council awarded the trophies for the people's choice concours. The quality of the cars have once again reached an all-time high, and once again some of last year's trophy winners also claimed the silverware this year. The results are as follows:

Saturday evening: The "Triumph Buffet" offered in the club house was, as usual, very popular with our visitors and judging by their feedback, it was exceptionally tasty. The evening followed its usual routine with the kids disco, teddy bear auction, grand raffle, and finally the disco proper. We didn't leave until midnight and Joe & Sue left considerably later.
Sunday morning: A start of another glorious day. Because of the clear sky, it was a bit on the chilly side at around the sunrise. People were waking up, making breakfast, and in the case of the Essex contingent, eating breakfast in their massive mess tent.
By about a quarter to nine, people started bringing their cars onto the field, with the field gradually starting to fill up. By about the time the last of the cars had rolled up, the field, once again was a sea of cars.
A magnificent sight. After a brief intro by Joe explaining that the traffic wardens would let the cars out in batches, everyone left in a steady procession out of the display field, leaving only an Austin Metropolitan which had unfortunately had petrol-soaked spark plugs. After a ten minute wait, this too was on its way to Yarmouth.
Sunday afternoon: Steve had redesigned the funkhana activities to catch out the old-timers at this event. As in previous years, people kept retrying the event in order to better their scores. The scouts, in a blatant display of cheating in their Land Rover were given 200 bonus points for initiative, but were deducted 1000 points (and thus instant disqualification) for infringement of the rules !!!
At last it was time to call the proceedings to a halt, say our good-byes to everyone, tidy up the field and finally head for home - exhausted but pleased the way the weekend had turned out.
A final thanks to you, our visitors, for turning up and spending your money to raise an all-time record of £4,550 for our chosen charity - East Anglia's Children's Hospices, and for enjoying yourselves which made all our efforts worthwhile.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the photos.
Not as many photos have been included as I would have liked, as they took a back seat to other priorities over the weekend. If anyone would like full-size images, just email me (Laurie).
