Lanarkshire & Lothian Soaring Club Letter of Agreement for Flying Campsie and Fairlie

A Letter of Agreement has been drawn up between the Lanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club (LLSC) and the National Air Traffic Services (NATS) Ltd at Glasgow Airport to permit limited Hang Gliding and Paragliding flights within the Glasgow Special Rules Zone (SRZ). This document contains the relevant information for all Hang Gliding and Paragliding pilots wishing to fly the sites within the SRZ.

Important!

All pilots wishing to fly within the SRZ must read this document and sign the Declaration of Acceptance at the bottom of this page, and return it to Lanarkshire and Lothian Soaring Club before flying within the SRZ. It is illegal to fly at these sites without complying with the rules.

Rules for flying within the Glasgow SRZ

  1. Flights are only allowed entirely within the boundaries of the four designated site boxes detailed in this document. No flights must leave any box except where two boxes join or where the edge of the box exits the SRZ (e.g. at Fairlie).

  2. All pilots must carry an altimeter that has been correctly calibrated, as detailed in the Agreed Sites section of this document, before each flight.

  3. All pilots must be at least BHPA Pilot rated or equivalent.

  4. All flights must be conducted in daylight hours and VMC.

Failure to comply with any of the above rules can result in prosecution, as well as us losing all of the sites within the Glasgow SRZ permanently. Please keep this document with you when flying these sites.

When you have read this document, please sign and return the Declaration of Acceptance below to the current club secretary.

  1. A telephone request is made to the Air Traffic Control (ATC) Watch Manager on 0141 840 8029, seeking approval for flight up to 3000 feet and such permission has been granted.

  2. The ATC Watch Manager will issue a time limit for the extension. Outside this time limit, all gliders must be at or below 2500 feet. It is expected that such requests will be kept to a minimum due to the impact on traffic patterns that such a request has.

The SRZ boundary has been marked on these maps as the thinner black line. However, reference should be made to a current airspace map for the area also.
