  BRASS FIRE HELMET

The front of the helmet shows the badge motif. In this case a generic 'crossed axes' type. The London Brigade had 'MFB' on the front. Above the badge can be seen a 'clover type' vent, this was for cooling. How effective this was in a metal -heat conducting helmet is unclear.
The chain link chin strap has leather binding underneath to prevent abrasion by the metal. Height of comb is apparent in this shot.
