The 'Green Goddess' was standard issue for civil defence forces during the 'Cold War'. They were given an outing during the first fire strike of 1977. Manned by troops they provided essential fire cover during the dispute - despite their ageing chassis & mechanicals.

Tyne & Wear actually had a 'Yellow Goddess' which was based at Tynemouth and used for driver training.
