Here we see a 'practice run' of events using the ex Tynemouth Brigade 'flat fronter' as a mount for the wheeled escape ladder.
The fire kit is not exactly in period
- with a mix of nomex trousers and felt jacket. Topped off with a cork type helmet.
The letters 'Cross House' can be seen on the building at the top of the picture.
The wooden escape ladder is correct for the time but of course the appliance is dated much later.
We will tell the full story of this dramatic fire and rescues in a later feature
TWMFB, Westgate Road, Newcastle, 1994.
