  PYLON SPECIAL SERVICE

Here we see a pylon similar to the one at the scene of the incident. The youth had climbed the supports to the gantry above and was struck by arcing electricity.
The power passing through the lines is of an extremely high voltage enabling it to jump across large distances. It is not necessary to actually touch the cables in order to receive a shock.
This made the incident very hazardous for crews attending, the risk of electrocution a very real threat to life.

Washington Highway, Washington, August 1986.
