New to SOF?

This page is to help those of you who are new to Soldier of Fortune to get started on the road to some serious FRAGGING

When I started to play SOF I couldn’t understand how people could type messages and continue to run around blasting away at everyone in site and when, in the heat of battle, are you supposed to be able to read the messages that flash up in the top left of the screen, then I discovered the magic of the console (something that had been mentioned but remained a bit of a mystery)

Well here is how it is done, when you first installed your Soldier of Fortune Platinum edition on your PC an icon was created on the desktop, what you need to do is right click on the icon and then click on “properties” this will open a window showing what that shortcut is all about and you will see a line saying “Target”

The line will read :  "C:\Program Files\Raven\SOF PLATINUM\SoF.exe"

That is if you have installed to the default directory, now you will need add a little bit of code after the ‘\SoF.exe” to make it read like this:

"C:\Program Files\Raven\SOF PLATINUM\SoF.exe" +set console 1

Note there is a space between ‘\SoF.exe” and +set   and a space between console and 1

Now click “apply” JOB DONE!!!.

To access the console in the game you press the ‘~’ “tilde”key (thats where the @ key is on the UK keyboard layout) and the top half of your screen will dissappear behind “THE CONSOLE”

You can now “bind” keys to do no end of things, but for now lets just bind a key to say “HELLO”. Bring down the console by pressing ‘~’ “tilde”key (@ on a UK setup) and type :

bind h HELLO            then enter (it doesn’t have to be ‘h’any key will work but make sure it is not a key used for an important opperation, like ‘r’ which is the default key for reload)

Now press ‘~’ “tilde”key (@ on a UK setup) to close console from now on when you press ‘h’ HELLO will be displayed for all to see.
