UK Real Life Help Guides

Installing and Setting Up Tirc

Run the installation program. If you are unsure of the options that are offered, just accept the defaults that the program selects.

Now the program is installed you are ready to add the information you'll need to connect to our chat room. If you didn't choose to run the program straight away, start it now.

First the program will ask you for your details.

In the 'My Nick' box put the name you would like to appear as in the chat rooms.
In the 'My E-Mail' box, put your email address, or a fake one if you prefer.
In the 'My Name' box, put some information about yourself
Important note: This information is visible to other chat users, we do NOT recommend you put your real name in this box.
The other two boxes you can either fill in or leave blank.
Then click 'Done!'
Note: If you choose a name that already belongs to someone else, you will be notified when you first connect, at which point you will have to choose another using the command /nick newname.

Now you will see the introduction window, you can close this (F1 will get it back if you need it later).

Click on the 'Connect' button to add a new server.

This will bring up the Tirc Connect window - Click on 'New'.

In the 'New Entry' box put a name by which you will know this server, in our example we've used 'Bondage', then click 'OK'.

You will then be brought back to the Tirc Connect window and the new server will be listed, almost ready for you to connect to...

In the Address box put irc.bondage.com
The other boxes can be left as they are.

You are now ready to get online... Click on 'Connect'.

Once you have connected to the server, you may get a message telling you that your nickname is owned, if this happens just type in /nick newname (where newname is another name you'd like), otherwise, your choice of name is fine and you can proceed to the next step...

You will see the Tirc Favourites window, click on the 'Edit Favourite List' button...

You can either scroll to the bottom of the list or simply overwrite it (you probably won't need those channels anyway) with #ukRealLife. Then click 'OK'.

This will return you to the Tirc Favourites window, where you will now see #ukRealLife in the list.
Double click on #ukRealLife (or highlight it then click 'Join this channel') to join the channel...

Note: You get the Favourites folder back at any time by typing Ctrl and J.

Congratulations! You're now online with Tirc and in the #ukRealLife chat room!
