We were given a palm "Starter Kit" as a present from Lisa's Brother. He brought them home after he visited The Eden Project. The "Kit" had four packets of seeds. Trachycarpus Fortunei, Sabal Palmetto, Butia Capitata and Washingtonia Robusta. The first seeds we're trying to grow are the Washingtonia Robusta seeds as they were mentioned as the easiest starters on the Rare Palm Seeds website. The germination time is varied and can be up to a month.
Here are the six young trees in our kitchen window. Four Robustas and two Palmettos. The biggest Robusta is now outside in the sun (as are the rest), but the smaller ones are in a very protected location as this time of year could be very harmful to them. We also have some MORE SEEDS sprouting!
Here it is in the garden... not ready to survive out in the winter just yet!
And here are four of the five tucked in around the others for some nice summer sun. Just shows how fast this palm grows!
This summer is going to see one of these planted in the ground, WATCH THIS SPACE!!)
