Hybrid Mini Developments. PAGE 1.
Muppet's Mini.
This is my first Hybrid Mini and the previous drive chain was a modified Metro Turbo set up but it is a well known fact that the gearboxes and engines are not really reliable when taken to the limit of their power capabilities.
My first idea was to have a 2.0 16v valve turbo which AMT offer to supply the parts but after waiting along time I decided to cancel the order and to follow my friends set up which has the 2.0 litre 16 valve engine with 48 dellortos. This should give a power output of 170bhp-180bhp at the flywheel. The engine will be housed on the AMT subframe which was purchased for £1000 which comes with all the engine mounts, drive shafts rose joints for the top arms, and nuts and bolts. The subframe is of the highest quality and is even plastic coated. For the money you will not get a better subframe. My frame is the road version with the upright shocks but they also do a race version where the shocks are at a 45 degree angle for when the car is lower. The additional stuff required for the conversion are shocks (coilovers) including top mounts, rose jointed bottom arms, and rose jointed tie rod bars. Both my bottom arms and tie rod bars are adjustable in place to make it easier to set up. My engine has come out of a Vauxhall cavalier GSI 2.0 16valve 4by4. The gearbox from the car will not be used and a gearbox from a 2.0 8 valve cavalier will be used instead. This may give me the wrong ratios but I will have to wait and see. The injection system has also been ditched for a set of carbs so I have had to use a dizzy from a mk2 cavalier SRI.
The project is going well with the braking system know complete and the engine is in and the drive shafts connected. The bodykit has been roughly finished and should be going down to the sprayers very soon. As soon as it is back I shall post some more photos.
Here's some pictures of how far I have got.
