War Machine. July 2005

The aesthetics of War Machine are inspired by the descriptions of the
Martian fighting machines in one of my favourite books 'The War of the Worlds'.

When the sun is shining the head of the war machine slowly turns towards the strongest light source
in short intermittent bursts of motion.

'War Machine' is a Solar Powered FREDHEAD driving an un-geared pager motor.

The first version of 'War Machine' used a FLEDHEAD but I just couldn't get the flipping thing to work right.
I tried 3 different designs with 3 different sets of transistors and none gave the desired results.
I eventually gave up and used the FREDHEAD instead. The picture with the one single green eye
is the early version and is also missing its solar panels. The version with the 2 red eyes
is the final FREDHEAD version which appears to work very nicely.

If you've got a pair of 3D glasses you may like to try the image below.
Note the RED lens should cover the LEFT eye
.
