Not only is Roy a talented all rounder, he also acts as Club Secretary and Assistant Historian. As a batsman Roy has a unique 'high' Caribbean style. On his day Roy can devastate the opposition bowling. Notably in the recent cup match against Cuxwold, the ball had to be recovered from a neighbouring sheep field on a number of occasions. However, Roy didn't just want to demonstrate supremacy or psychological dominance and was heard to repeatedly apologise and sympathise with the bowler. For Roy it is our summer game which must always be the ultimate victor. Sporting and Corinthian values are at the heart of Roy's game and these values he has attempted to instil into the very fabric of The Corinthian Jedi Cricket Club. This he has done effectively by establishing the Philosophy and Ethics working group which holds weekly meetings in Roy's very own Shamenisticly themed garden shed
Roy was given the opportunity to work with the now legendry Commander N. WhigginsRN (retd) as the Commander penned the club's history. 'It was a the chance of a lifetime to work with such a respected historian as the Commander...he even let me sharpen his pencil.' commented an overawed Roy.
As club secretary Roy has risen to the challenge, at a somewhat more pragmatic level of existence; to recruit a range of talent, liaise with the official gentleman of the John Pettit Grimsby and District League (Midweek section) and perform general administrative undertakings.
At a personal level Roy takes particular care in getting to know all our players well. 'Kelly? is that your first or second name?' was how he scythed through a thin veneer of platitudes and acquainted himself with Mr Kelly Drewery, our leading player.
Roy is the first player in the John Pettit Grimsby and District League to leave the field to attend Beavers. This is testament to the man
More recently Roy was awarded John Pettits League Secretary of the year 2008, which gave him a new Jedi nickname of Caribbean SOY (Secretary Of the Year) for the following 12 months. But Soy finished his term in disgrace by missing the league meeting & getting the Jedi a fine in the process
