BISHOP’S WALTHAM FESTIVAL 2007 – 8 – 15 July

Bishop’s Waltham Palace grounds will again come alive again this year from 8 – 15 July. Festival Day on Sunday 8 July brings together local crafts and fun for all the family. Local schools will also perform on stage the skills they have learnt during the international workshops. Gates open at 1.00pm and the entertainment goes on all afternoon.

Every evening hosts a different kind of entertainment, starting on Monday with a delicious three course “Best of British” meal at Bank’s Restaurant. Or alternatively you can support the youth of today as the display their talent live in the Palace Grounds, at the Youth Band Night.

“Rule Britannia” is the theme for the extremely talent community choir, Festival Singers, as they entertain you in St Peter’s Church, on Tuesday evening.

Want to know more about the Palace, then join British Heritage on a tour of the grounds and talk, on Wednesday afternoon at 2.00pm.  Then a treat for the evening as the Upham Players perform four interlinked one-act plays from Confusions by the modern master of comedy Alan Ayckbourn.

Thursday night treat in store for all, as the sixties act the Swinging Blue Jeans take you back in time with 60’s classic’s like the Hippy, Hippy Shake, Good Molly Miss Molly, and You’re No Good, supported by local favourites – Tickle the Pickle. So dig out your flares, hot pants and platform shoes, the best dressed will win a great prize!

Friday night is theatre night as Rain or Shine Theatre Company brings you Shakespeare’s classic Twelfth Night. Twins Viola and Sebastian are separated during a violent storm, each believing the other has perished, until now?

Free Saturday morning theatre for the children is the Marvellous Magical Coat from the talented On The Other Hand Company. Given a huge new coat by his aunt Dolly, the little boy is transported to a strange land, where his adventures begin. Set in an attic and using a story teller and puppetry to tell the tale, for ages 4+. Donations will be welcome.

The day continues with something very new and exciting for the Festival – Folk Day.

Headliners Oysterband, along with Rachel Unthank, Julie Felix, Les Barker, Jackie Oates and many more will entertain you from 2.00pm until well into the evening. Full details of the day’s line-up are available on the website. Don’t miss this classic folk day at the Palace.

After a very exciting week of entertainment, the week would not be complete without the traditional afternoon of Jazz. Legends Melinda Lightfoot with Terry Lightfoot and his band “Hit Me With A Hot Note will take to the stage from 2.00pm. Bring your picnic and enjoy the sunshine and music. A full bar with real ale is available.
