As part of our efforts in Cricket Force 2008, David and Luke Conway and a team of helpers constructed two new sightscreens, which we had to have in place as a requirement of the PDQ League for playing in Division One.
The Work Begins
David Conway the chief engineer gets his helmet on and starts on the metal frame work in the back garden !!
Rather a lot of smoke...can't be good !!! Don't know what is going on but it all part of the engineering process. Meanwhile Millie has a drill in her hands !! That can't be good either !
Connors gets to work on the wood
Meanwhile out the front Luke is measuring the wood...armed with a pencil and a ruler, his time at TLA was not a complete waste !!
Luke the Foreman Luke becomes foreman during the afternoon, making sure his dad is doing the work, while he keeps his hands warm !! Not sure what is going on there !
The Painters are in
Millie gets to work on the frame, making sure every part of the frame is gleaming white.
Tom Sanderson gets the second coat on up The Glebe, whilst Lurch starts the unenviable task of painting the wood.
Nice being tall
Lurch shows his true value getting to the high bits. Meanwhile there seems to be some confusion between him and Wally as to what tool to use next.
Beginning to look like a sight screen. One side of the wood is painted and left to dry.
The Erection....ooo-er !!
The putting together of the frame and wood to create the first of the sight screens. More painting for Millie, Lurch and Tom. Another foreman Geoff Rutter pops in for a look.
David returns with his flame thrower to do the final welding. Millie shows incredible strength (bottom left) holding the screen in place while David does the welding. Luke, Lurch and Tom
are having a pint !!
Completed Sight Screen
The first sight screen is completed, and now work begins on the second one. David Fahie turns up in his whites to help with work on the second one.
Nearly there as the second sight screen takes shape. A job well done with help from a number of members. The sight screens are set to adorn The Glebe throughout the next few seasons as the club continues to try an improve the facilities.
