Questions about my Site
most of the information below isn't gonna be of much interest if you are a experienced record collector. but from the questions i get from visitors to my site there are alot of people who have
vinyl record collections & have no idea whatsoever about the potential values of their records.
how do i calculate the values in my U.K price guides
all values are based on the prices charged by dealers who advertise in the UK magazine Record Collector.
+ internet dealers on multi seller websites such as NETSOUNDS and MUSICSTACK and ebay auction results at POPSIKE
it is becoming much harder to find reference points on which to base valuations , especially for really rare items.
i do not have the time to monitor ebay 24/7 covering many artists .. etc
so would appreciate any constructive comments from serious collectors.
are there any other price guides on the net
i have only found a few so far so if you know of any please EMAIL me so that I can link to them.
are the values given in my guides relevant in the U.S.A
possibly but U.K issues will probably be more expensive to buy in the U.S.A and
U.S.A issues will probably be more expensive in the U.K due to supply & demand etc.
how accurate are my price guides
a good question.values in my Guides are really an average value for items in top condition.
it would be a bit boring if everybody charged the same amount for the same record.
part of the fun of record collecting is finding a record at a bargain price.
prices can quite often be found at 50% above & below the average given in my guides.
your valuations are way off the mark !
you could be right , some price guide pages haven't been updated for a year. this maybe true in some cases , maybe all,who knows ?
for example if i value a record at £20 and you think its value is in the range £10-£30 then i would agree
my £20 record could easily be found for £10-£30.but if you think my £20 record could be worth £40-£50 or more
then i would like to hear from you.Just EMAIL me your thoughts and opinions.
as it is difficult for me to keep everything constantly upto date.
what if the records i have aren't in top condition
first you must grade your records.most people in the UK use the grading system in U.K RECORD COLLECTOR
magazine.if unsure, just type "grade vinyl records into google.com to find plenty of information.
then depending on its condition calculate a value accordingly.
this can also be done at the RECORD COLLECTOR'S GUILD site.it's very hard to find old vinyl
from the 1950's & 1960's in true mint condition, for example original uk Beatles albums in mint condition
can be seen up for sale for £100+ ,maybe double the expected price of a record in excellent condition.
why do you mention items valued at £ 5 or less in your rare record & cd price guides
it's really just to show that although the record in question may appear for example to be
a limited release, in reality its quite common hence the low value.
| you don't have a price guide for the band or artist that I was looking for | |||
| i do plan to continue adding groups in the future unless i get a bit bored. | |||
| you can email me a suggestion for future additions but I can't guarentee that your choice(s) will appear. | |||
| this web page lists most of the groups that will probably appear at some point | |||
| |||
i have noticed a few items missing from your guides that maybe should be included
please let me know your thoughts,as constructive emails are always appreciated.
i have omitted some records for the time being as I'm not totally sure about them.
some rarities that have only been recently available may not appear in my guides immediately
as I will try to work out a value when I've seen it for sale a few times. some are listed HERE
i have seen + or ? in place of values in your guides
? means that I'm aware that the record exists but am unsure of a value at this time.
30 ? means that my best guess would be about £ 30.if you know better then please let me know.
+ means that i'm unsure of a value but have given a minimum value for the time being.
these values will be updated as soon as I get a better idea on their values.
are you crazy trying to compile up todate price guides which is an impossible task
Oh Yes !
can you give help on valuations
sorry due to lack of time i can no longer answer any questions
you could visit popsike.com or music price guide or collectors frenzy for some help
how & where can i sell my records
please don't ask me as there really is no easy answer. it really depends on how much effort you
want to put in to selling them.plus other factors such as how many just 1 or a whole collection.
do records with mis pressed labels have any value
it's difficult to give a straight answer to this question.it's just my opinion but
for example if the label has spelling mistakes or lists the tracks in the wrong order or has.
the same label on both sides of the disc then probably not but even then it would depend on the group / artist.
if the cd or vinyl disc plays something different to what it says on the label then you will have more chance of
having a valuable record and an even greater chance if your disc plays something different by the same artist that
wasn't intended for release.a good example of this is -THE SMITHS - Shoplifters of the World 12 inch
some copies play an unissued song -you haven't earned it yet baby
the standard 12 inch worth around £5 , the mis pressed 12 inch worth around £40 -£50 !
