Extract 4: The Little Wooden Hut, at Four Lane Ends
The postcard is dated 1923, and was addressed to Rebecca Graham, of No. 5 Wateron Avenue, Blackpool. It was sent by Nellie and Tom, and the message says, 'Willie and John are on the porch'. The shop was a newsagent, and in 1912, was owned by a Mr Rushton. Next door to the shop was a tram shelter, and behind it was the old St Andrew's School at Four Lane Ends. The area is named because it is the junction of Salford Road, Manchester Road, New Brook Road and St Helens Road. The Bolton boundary was five feet from the Hulton Arms, and on St Helens Road, the houses were in Westhoughton and the footpath in Bolton.
