TEDDY CAVIES
A short–coated cavy with coat hairs standing out from the body, to give an appearance similar to the Rex but with a coat that is shorter, plusher and with straight hairs.
The teddies in the shed are shades of many colours at the moment, but in April, 2005 I managed to produce a trio of cavies with roan coats, one boar and two sows, brother and sisters. The colours are mainly strawberry roan and blue roan. I liked these colours so much, that I have decided this is what I would like to specialize in for the teddies. In 2007 I had quite few chocolate tri coloured and black tri coloured babies born, so these plus the roan will be the colours you will mainly see in the shed, however a few lighter shades are still there to cross breed with the darker colours, to keep the gene pool as large as I can. ******** SOWS ********

Below are prime examples of a good teddy carrier,, large eyes with good ear carriage, head and shoulders. I think it is essential to have teddy carriers when breeding teddies, otherwise the stud can easily get very inbred, and these cross matings are a easy way of improving the gene pool in your stud. It is important to remember to use animals that have just smooth coated ancestors, otherwise you may find you get longhairs or even rosettes in your stock. In the photograph below are three generations of sows showing the progression from pet to teddy. Bottom left is Friskey a smooth coated pet she was mated with a full teddy and produced 3 babies: Teddy carriers: Panda: Golden Agouti/gold/white, Lollipop: Lemon Agouti/lemon/white and Domino Black/white/Lemon. Panda was mated to another full teddy and had 4 babies, 2 teddy carriers and 2 full teddies, Gina is one of the full teddies top left of the picture, the other pet far right is the sister of Friskey, Whiskey: fabulous sow, won lots of first prizes in the pet section.
Rexcetra: Panda: (Sow) Born: 22nd August, 2003: died 2nd December, 2008 Dam: Rexcetra: Friskey: Golden agouti/gold - smooth coated pet Sire: Dylan: Lemon Agouti/lemon/white - teddy boar - bred by Caroline Smith. This beautiful sow is a first generation carrier, but has produced some of the best pigs I have ever had, she was a good mother, and now enjoys life in the retirement pen. Mother to Gina and Grandmother to Rio who are both listed above in the teddy section,
Rexcetra: Domino: (Sow) Born: 22nd August, 2003 Dam: Rexcetra: Friskey: Golden agouti/gold - smooth coated pet Sire: Dylan: Lemon Agouti/lemon/white - teddy boar - bred by Caroline Smith. This beautiful sow is a first generation carrier, who was the litter sister of Panda and Lollipop, sadly she died some time ago.
Rexcetra: Lollipop: (Sow) Born: 22nd August, 2003 Dam: Rexcetra: Friskey: Golden agouti/gold - smooth coated pet Sire: Dylan: Lemon Agouti/lemon/white - teddy boar - bred by Caroline Smith. Another beautiful sow who is a first generation carrier, was the litter sister of Panda and Domino, all these sisters produced some excellent offspring for the future of my teddy breeding.
Rexcetra: Marzipan: (Boar) Born 23rd November, 2004: Lemon Agouti/lemon. Dam: Jasmine: Self Cream Sire: Caesar: Golden Agouti/white/gold :Teddy: parents where from Malaxis Stud and Anja Duetten This boar is first generation carrier, I have used him a couple of times with my full teddies and with his mother being self cream he does produce some very attractive babies.
