INTRODUCTIONDuring the war, a small radio navigation unit was set up at Winterberg in West Germany. During the nineteen fifties a small group of, mainly, National Servicemen were still there and at three other sites in northern Germany.A reunion of some of the ex Winterberg staff took place in 1996 thanks to the efforts of John Devey. John passed away the following year but another reunion took place in 1998 and a third in July 1999, in Winterberg. A fourth took place in the UK on November 11th 2000.On this website we have tried to assemble as much material as we can about not only Winterberg in the 1950's but also it's previous history, the people, the stories and the other stations in the 'chain', Iburg, Uchte and Nordhorn. We have also included the USAAF base and the 'Fixer' unit which shared the location. We are also interested in stories of other service personnel who were at the leave centre or Army ski training school. I HAVE UPDATED SITE THIS MONTH (AUG 2007) WITH SOME NEW PAGES AND FEATURES. THIS INCLUDES LIVE WEBCAMS FROM WINTERBERG AND LOTS OF NEW PHOTOS PLUS GOOGLE MAP LINKS Copyright 1999/2007 Keith Mason. Produced in London, England. The site is divided into several section.
