Calling
all men and women – do you need a make-over?
Television series ‘10 Years Younger’
is scouring the country looking for people to take part in the next series
of this highly successful show.
Do you think you look older than you
actually are? Have you lost your confidence and way with fashion? Is your
hair a horror but you don’t know what style suits you? If you feel time
has been unkind to you, a family member, a friend or a colleague, let Myleene
Klass and her team of anti-ageing experts roll back time and shed the years
with or without surgery.
The new series will include a format
twist called Natural v The Knife, where members of the public will assess
whether plastic surgery is the best way of maintaining youthful looks.
If you hate looking in the mirror, hide
behind baggy clothes or just feel old before your time, ’10 Years Younger’
would like you to get in touch to tell them all about yourself.
If you, or anyone you know, are interested
in having a make-over and meeting our team of anti-ageing experts to get
help sharpening your style – with or without the knife – then get in touch.
Please note if you are a successful
applicant, the entire process will involve as many as 12-15 days of your
time. You will also need to provide photographs with your application,
including a close-up photo of your face without make up, a full-length
photo front on in underwear, a full length photo front on in your everyday
clothes and a dated photograph from approximately 10 years ago.

RESEARCHER WANTS HELP REGARDING
POSTWAR GAY BROTHELS IN LONDON
I am, as my subject line indicates doing some research
into the history of London's gay scene. In my particular case I'm looking
into the history of gay brothels between the war and the present and I
was wondering if your site and its contacts might be able to throw up some
former employees or customers for me. I'm not looking for just rent boys
and (although the remeniscences on your site show supplies some interesting
examples of places where guys sold sex) but people who worked in or visited
actual houses of disrepute.
This is an honest attempt to capture a bit of gay history
that may otherwise be lost.

POLARI SPEAKERS SOUGHT
I am involved in
a project which aims to track down some "original" speakers of Polari --
i.e. those gay men who used it for real, rather than just picking a bit
of it up from Julian and Sandy.
It's an important piece
of our history, and unfortunately there seem to be few recordings of "real"
Polari speakers out there. Is there any chance you could mention us on
your site and ask those people who are interested to get in contact. polari.recording@googlemail.com
Many thanks
Tim.
WERE
YOU BORN ON 14TH NOVEMBER 1948.
TV PRODUCER WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU
We are currently producing a film called ‘The Charles Generation’,
a Cutting Edge documentary for Channel 4.
The idea of the film is explore the last 60 years of history through
the voices of men born on the same day as Prince Charles - 14th November
1948. All of these people received a hamper from Buckingham Palace
celebrating the coincidence of their birth with the prince. As they
are now turning 60, we want to make a film that traces the social, economic
and cultural changes through which they have lived. Our story stretches
from the difficult years of the 1950s, the freedom and excitement of the
1960s, the depression of the 70s through to the Thatcherite era of the
1980s. Different people's stories take us into different eras, building
up a portrait of a generation that have lived through and generated profound
change.
Approximately 1000 men were born on this day, the 14th November 1948
and of the 300 people we have already spoken with, nobody has mentioned
being gay. The last 60 years have seen massive changes in the British attitude
to homosexuality and we feel it is crucial to allow this story to be told,
if there’s someone who is prepared to tell it.
I was wondering whether you had any resources at on your website
or through community groups that might be able to direct or advise us on
how to track down these men - both Stonewall and Polari have said that
you are an excellent resource. I realise that this a bit of a needle
in a haystack situation, but we are giving it a go anyway. We are
not asking anybody to take part in filming at this stage and are trying
to speak to as many as possible.
If you can contact me on 0208 932 0133, that would be much appreciated.

BOOKS YOU MAY FIND OF INTEREST
My partner Nigel and I have both - as older gay men, 61
and 69 respectively - written our memoirs.
mine, DAVID EVANS is entitled APPOINTMENTS
WITH THE DREAM FAIRY and is about me and growing up and coming to
london in the sixties and later working for two high-flying artists management
companies in the music and theatre and film industries, looking after the
careers of cat stevens, elton john and queen - amongst many others. i also
have three books all available on the biographical topic of my friend freddie
mercury as well as other novels originally published by the now defunct
MILLIVRES BOOKS.
My partner NIGEL QUINEY has two memoirs, the first
is A COCK-EYED OPTIMIST and the second, just
published, is entitled MORE COCK-EYED OPTIMISM.
we joke privately that the third will be called MORE COCK, LESS OPTIMISM!
All these books are published by TUSITALA
PRESS and available via bookshops or online via GARDNERS
BOOK DISTRIBUTORS of Eastbourne, the largest distributors in
the country.
Thank you for doing your website - it's a very necessary
resource and reference point. so many young people of all persuasions have
now both forgotten or have never been aware of the brave lives that have
been led for many centuries in order for them to enjoy the wonderful freedom
they have today. 1967 seems a long time ago ...
hope you can make something positive out of this information
take care
best wishes

INVITATION
TO PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH.
I am in the last months
of an MSc in Gerontology, which is the study of age and ageing, at Southampton
University. My Dissertation is on the informal social support networks
of older lesbians, gay men and bisexual people. A lesbian myself, I am
interested in the extent to which formal social care might be needed, how
people would like this to be provided, and by whom. I am hoping to take
this on to PhD level and contribute to the shaping of social policy in
this area. I am asking members of various gay, lesbian and bisexual social
network sites, aged 45 and over, to answer an online questionnaire. The
questionnaire is completely anonymous. I shall be conducted follow-up interviews
with a small cross-section of people and at the end of the questionnaire
it asks if you would wish to be one of them. You will also be offered feedback,
including a copy of my final dissertation. Please feel free to email me
with any questions you might have to sw2y07@soton.ac.uk.
If you would like to proceed straight away, please click on this link to
the questionnaire:
https://www.survey.iss-caa.soton.ac.uk/q4/open.dll?session=5181389594803385
You will be asked for
User Name, please put: NONAME and for Group put: OLGB2.
I really hope you will
complete the questionnaire because with an ageing population it is important
to ensure that there will be appropriate services for older lesbian, gay
and bisexual people.
