More detailed info on the Virtual Stroll:
It is now almost 200 years since the first guide book to Leicester was published. Compiled by Susanna Watts (whose grave is visited in St Mary de Castro churchyard), it was published in 1804 by the local printer Thomas Combe. Susanna's Leicester was a town with a population of about 17,000. Today, at the turn of the third millenium, the modern city has a population of nearly 300,000.
The virtual walk will take the browser through 2,000 years of history and change. From the fourth-century Roman Jewry Wall, which was built by the occupiers as part of their forum and baths, to the modern Shires shopping centre.
The information on each location will include the buildings that have stood and are standing as well as details of interesting events associated with the site (including alleged hauntings). Not only words and pictures, but also the sounds of this vibrant city will make this CD a unique souvenir of the fascinating city that is Leicester.
There are over 1300 stunning photographs, which works out at just over one penny a picture! There are links to relevant web sites and well as countless internal links that will take the browser effortlessly from one site to another.
