POETRY THE TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS On the first day of Christmas, I bought a Christmas Tree, On the second day I bought some booze so I could merry be. On the third day I toured the shops, Christmas presents for to find, The jostling and the shoving and the pushing made me sigh, And the prices made me cry!
On the fourth day of Christmas I bought mince pies and a Christmas Cake, From good old Marks and Spencers cos I couldn't be bothered to bake. On the fifth day of Christmas I bought dates and nuts and a tin of Roses too, On the sixth day I checked the fairy lights and the damn things went and blew! And I too!
On the seventh day of Christmas I attended to the post, I sent off cards and parcels to the ones who mattered most. On the eighth day of Christmas the carol singers came, They sang of Baby Jesus and made me feel ashamed. On the ninth day of Christmas, I counted up my money, And thinking what I still had to buy, really wasn't funny! My mood was far from sunny!
On the tenth day of Christmas, I should have gone to church to pray, And think about the miracle that brought us Christmas Day. I meant to go on the eleventh, but there wasn't time to pause, Instead I took my grandchildren to pay homage to Santa Claus! Then I caught up on the chores!
On the twelve day of Christmas, I gazed at the night sky, And there I saw the Christmas Star shining bright on high. And then I heard it's message loud and clear to all and each, A child is born, goodwill to men, and to the earth be peace.
