SINGING THE BLUES

Well I never felt quite right,

 singing the blues,

in that phoney American drawl,

as I call out that my baby has left me, down on the Delta, on the banks of the Mississippi.

Especially when you come from Birkenhead.

So I decided to sing some

 traditional British folk songs instead,

about press gangs and deportation, of the Irish Nation's struggle for liberation.

But even then you still have to develop

a distinctive nasal whine,

that in someway defines your authenticity.

And even modern folk songs,

which I buy, enjoy and listen to

still didn't feel right.

So I'm trying to write my own songs,

in my own words,

well not my own words that would be silly

I mean who'd understand me.

But whether they're good, bad or indifferent, who cares, at least they'll be my songs, in my own voice.
