POETRY

JUST FOR YOU

I would climb the highest mountain

I would sail the seven seas

I would stand waist deep in water

With piranhas swimming round my knees.

Through the snowy blizzards of the North Pole

To the deepest forests of Peru

From Bolivia to Siberia

I'd go just to be with you.

I would happily lie on a bed of nails

Put my head in a lion's mouth

Connect live electrodes to my toes

And pluck my eyebrows out.

I would beat myself with a prickly thorn

Poke needles in my eyes

Lay naked, spread-eagled on your lawn

Beneath a hot, baking blue sky.

I would no longer express my opinion

Recant all my beliefs

Become one of the silent

Turn my back on pain and grief.

I would sign a false confession

Swear allegiance to their cause

Accept their corrupted system

Live by their corrupted laws.

I would give all my money, to a poor nobody

Give my happiness to the sad

Give all I ever wanted, to the lonely downhearted

With any hope I've ever had.

That precocious pop star, can have my new guitar

And any song I've ever written

Because it would all be so worthwhile, just to see you smile

And to know that for me, your heart is smitten.
