CHILDREN'S PLAYTIME

Where are the children going to play

When they take the parks away

Cut down the trees and paint it all grey

It’s just ready for the taking

Instead of trees, and flowers and grass

Replace it all, with concrete and glass

Consider all that lovely brass

That, investors could be making

But they do apologies for any distress

Though you must realise it’s all for the best

And where this could lead, you can only guess

So it’s pointless you complaining

And it’s no use saying you didn’t know

The plans have all been well on show

It’s wasn’t our fault, nobody could be bothered to go

A decision had to be taken

They say it’s nice to hear the children sing

Playing on the slides and swings

But happiness doesn’t seem to mean a thing

To a large business corporation

They’ll just build another superstore

Stack the shelves high and sell you more

To increase their profits by the score

Is their one and only consideration

And as a public sweetener

They’ll build a nice new sports centre

Though it’ll cost the earth for you to enter

It’s seems such a high price to pay

And to guarantee security

Install the latest C.C.T.V

So you can park your car in complete safety

While keeping the locals at bay

But they do apologies for any distress

Though you must realise it’s all for the best

And where this could lead, you can only guess

So it’s pointless you complaining

And it’s no use saying you didn’t know

The plans have all been well on show

It’s wasn’t our fault, nobody could be bothered to go

A decision had to be taken

I’ve heard it said, they’re just a bunch of City Bankers

Who operate a shady practice

With sympathetic local councillors

                                 Who guarantee the scheme

For we all know it’s money that talks

And in a choice between that and parks

We’ve lost the fight before it starts

I suppose, we’re all just living in a dream

While they keep apologising for any distress

That you must realise it’s all for the best

And where this could lead, you can only guess

So it’s pointless you complaining

And it’s no use saying you didn’t know

The plans have all been well on show

It’s wasn’t our fault, nobody could be bothered to go

A decision had to be taken
