(C) Leeds City Libraries 1917: Looking up Calverley Street towards where the Infirmary and Civic Hall will be built. You can just see the edge of the Town Hall on the left of the picture. Notice the arched doorway on the line of buildings on the left - Vulcan Cars used to be to the right of the doorway.

Mr Horner's Garage was demolished to make way for Cookridge Street. Luckily the Victoria and Family Hotel (the red brick building) survived and enabled countless thousands who came out of the Town Hall law courts (just off to the left of the picture) to drown their sorrows.

The sandy coloured building used to be the juvenile courts but has been refurbished into a trendy pub, 'The Felon & Firkin'. Facilities include a red telephone kiosk with a telephone that actually works, wooden benches and loads of old signs and posters from bygone Leeds.
