If there is a theme to our 46th season it is surely Celebration! In a sense, we begin by celebrating ourselves with the release of our latest CD, a wide-ranging anthology drawn largely from our repertoire of the last four years and including two world premiere recordings - one of them the vibrant choral fanfare Malcolm Singer composed for the choir’s 40th anniversary concert. Please note that the ticket for this concert incorporates a voucher towards the cost of your first CD purchase. In December we salute the genius of Marc-Antoine Charpentier (d1704), composer of the Eurovision theme, with a varied programme including extracts from his grandest work, the Mass for Four Choirs, and his finest, the Christmas Pastorale. Unaccountably, this remains unpublished and we will use an edition prepared from the sources by David Hansell. In March we will combine with David’s ‘other’ choir to present a programme of multi-part, multi-choir Renaissance masterpieces culminating in Thomas Tallis’s Spem in alium, for eight five-part choirs - a definite ‘not-to-be-missed’ as this is no mere technical tour-de-force but a profoundly moving piece. Finally in this anniversary-rich year we salute Peter Maxwell Davies on his 70th birthday with a work that we have jointly commissioned with 46 other choirs via the Making Music organisation, and Michael Tippett (b1905).
