The Royal Iris

Return to main index

This boat has been extensively modified since being built in 1959 by Phillips. Originally she had an open bridge between the wheelhouse and docking stations. As can be seen this is now a continuous enclosed bridge.

Originally powered by two Crossley engines, the engine room has now been completely stripped out and refitted with Dutch engines (Ho Hum can we not make anything today?)

As it was told to me, there is unlikely to ever be money available to replace these boats, so now they are steadily being refurbished with the hull plates being replaced as needed at dry dockings, so that effectively they will become new boats anyway.
