Gary Le Strange wows Edinburgh 2005 10.09.05
Greetings from Little Metal Girl.
Well, I suppose I've had plenty of time to recover from the excesses of this year's Edinburgh Festival, but I always suffer from a type of "jet lag" on my return.
I'm sure I'm not alone.
It's probably due to my body clock re-adapting from the 6 a.m. bedtimes and the constant alcohol consumption of the Festival. No matter what good intentions I have on the plane from London ("This time I will see more shows, eat sensibly and sleep properly") it's all gone to pot within 12 hours of touching-down at EDI airport.
But what a blast!
Gary was fantastic, as always! His gigs at SPANK! were fabulous, and he performed a stunning acoustic set with the Priorité à Gauche boys at the Underbelly.
It really proves what an amazing composer and songwriter Gary Le Strange is.
Even without all the electronic backing tracks and special musical effects, his songs stand up on their own as brilliant pieces of musical art.
The highlight for me was Gary playing at the Beergut 100 concert, with Kevin Eldon, Bill Bailey and Phil Whelans.
Wow! What an fantastic night. Gary looked, sounded and acted the part of the rock-god he is.
He sang a cover of "The Jean Genie". Brilliant, just brilliant.
I felt so proud of him, up there with these brilliant musicians, a massive film wall behind him showing various images and a live feed from the cameras in front of the stage.
I always wondered what Gary Le Strange would look like on a massive stage, with proper lights and spot-on musicians - now I know - he looked like he was completely at home, completely comfortable and where he was born to be.
It was like a dream come true.
I'll never forget that image of the crowds of people cheering and singing along to our wonderful hero.
So many people were asking "Who is that man?".
I could hardly contain myself, I wanted to shout "It's Gary Le Strange - the most talented, creative and gorgeous man in the Universe. Where have you been?"
But I just smiled and gave the thumbs up. Way to go, Gary!

Gary Le Strange - Rock Rebel 18.10.05
Greetings from Little Metal Girl. Well, it looks like Summer is well and truly over . The leaves are falling from the trees , mornings are dark and gloomy and gangs of kids are terrorising the streets with illegal fireworks. Yep.. Autumn is upon us.
But fear not…
This month saw the return of the glorious all-singing, all-dancing, all-conquering CLUB LE STRANGE and what an amazing night!
It was great to see so many familiar faces in the crowd and a host of new fans too. Gary himself was on top form, looking as gorgeous as ever, with some brilliant new songs from his forthcoming album, Glamoronica.
We were also treated to some leftfield poetry with Gary performing the classic "I am a car" from his Peterford Art College period.
It was a thoroughly entertaining and exciting evening.
Gary was joined by several of his talented show-biz friends on stage, all brilliant and original styles of performance. Jeremy Lion impressively drank his way through a startling retelling of Goldilocks and the three Bears, The Brothers generously allowed us a glimpse into their blissful domestic home life and the Animal Man jigged, pranced and sang himself off the stage.
Gary sang his genius songs between every performance piece and did a stunning encore to end the night.
I can't wait for next month - I'm so glad Gary has decided to carry on with the Club. There were rumours flying around that he might be too busy with TV and Radio projects to continue organising a live monthly club, but I have been assured that Club Le Strange will continue for the time being - largely thanks to Gary's showbiz mates and all the fans who have pleaded with him to keep it going.
Don't leave us Gary!
The small screen and airwaves may be beckoning you - but we love you on the stage!
Nothing can replace you in the flesh. I propose a new campaign….
KEEP GARY LE STRANGE LIVE! Get your hands off, all you TV and Radio execs - we saw Gary first, we supported him when you didn't give him the time of day. Now you want a piece of him….. Well not OUR piece!
We love you Gary.

Glamoronica shocka! 12.11.05
Greetings from Little Metal Girl.
Wow - I'm still reeling from Thursday's amazing shock revelation at Club Le Strange!
It was a great night as usual, with many regular performers and returning fans.
The Albany always engenders that wonderful vibe of creative energy
Gary Le Strange was on top form as usual, with the Evening Standard making him Critic's Choice this week - hurray!
Gary performed many songs from his first album "Polaroid Suitcase" this time, which was a real treat for the long-term fans. Songs included "I'm Japanese", "Is my Toaster Sentient?" and "Grey".
Then Gary announced on stage that he has abandoned his forth-coming album "Glamoronica" in favour of a brand new, more experimental album. We were all quite shocked, as he has been working on that album for the past year, with songs like "The Cowboy Astronaut of Mother's Day", "Fishnet Brando" and "All I ever Do (is sit in my room)" being part of the 14 track album. Gary is adamant that he will not release it now, which just adds more intrigue and enigma to the man!
Gary Le Strange having a "lost" album is probably one of the coolest things I've heard all year
Anyway, we were treated to two new brilliant songs: "Black Doll Man" and "Papillion" which were outstandingly fantastic. Gary obviously enjoyed singing them and the audience loved his new sound. I can't wait to hear some more songs. They were so catchy and up-beat - they've been with me since the gig. Gary Le Strange songs tend to stay inside your head for ages!
Gary hasn't got a title for the new album yet, but he asked the fans to come up with a working title. There really were so many suggestions, but Gary picked out "Kelly from Neighbours" and "Alright Computer" as his favourites. Somehow I don't think either will be a real contender for the actual title, but it was funny thinking them up!
I have sad news……
It looks like it will probably be the LAST Club Le Strange in December for a while! Gary is very busy with the new album and TV/Radio projects - there is no way he can spare the time after Christmas to do the monthly Club. I am gutted, as you can imagine, but I completely understand his decision.
I have it on good authority that he intends to do some one-night specials in the Spring, so at least that's something. In the meantime, WATCH THIS SPACE……
Whatever you do, DON'T MISS CLUB LE STRANGE on DECEMBER 8TH !!!!!!!!
Knowing Gary, if it's his last one, it will be UNBELIEVABLY BRILLIANT.
We love you Gary x

Say Hello, Wave Goodbye. 18.12.05
Greetings from Little Metal Girl.
It was great to see so many of you at the final Club Le Strange last week - and what a great show to finish the year!
Gary's guests were all phenomenal with their own original, innovative brand of performance. I love it when individuals are willing to take risks on stage and just do their own thing. It is so brave and I feel honoured as an audience member to be part of that creative event.
Well now, Gary's new songs "Shivering in the Rain" , "Midnight Bastard" and "Michael the Swan".
I'm almost speechless with awe! Wow - what fantastic creations! How does he do it??
Every time you think you can pin Gary Le Strange down, he just keeps pushing the boundaries even further. The Mick Jagger style "Midnight Bastard" is a real work of art - his performance of it was completely amazing. What a great rock song and you could tell Gary loved singing it. If that's the quality of work Gary is producing now, since ditching the "Glamoronica" album, then what a great decision he made.
It seems that he has tapped into a really creative seam, and he is realising his true potential.
I think the "New Romantic" tag that has followed Gary Le Strange around is about to be smashed to oblivion. It's hard to define such original performers as Gary Le Strange and the Press were very quick to put him into a labelled box to begin with.
I suppose it's only natural to want to compare him to certain other pop stars, but I believe with this new forth-coming album (which we still don't have a title for) it will be obvious that Gary is in a class and genre of his own.
For those of you who have been wanting to reserve copies of the new album, many thanks and I will let you know the release date as soon as I hear. You will be able to buy it directly off this website, exactly as you can right now with "Face Academy" and "Polaroid Suitcase".
Also, many thanks to all the wonderful Boosh fans for their kind words in the Guestbook and for the many orders of Gary's albums, following that fabulous gig with Noel Fielding on Saturday. You guys were an amazing audience and you made Gary feel so welcome!
Major news.
I actually only have 10 copies left of "Polaroid Suitcase", Gary's very first album. It's difficult to say goodbye to such an amazing CD, but perhaps Gary will re-release it again one day. I guess sometimes you just have to let go - when it's gone, it's gone.
I feel like that about Club Le Strange. But what a blast! To those people who came to every single Club, you were amazing!
Let's raise a glass to all those original performers, new songs and unique moments we have witnessed over 2005 ….…… and a truly heartfelt "thank you" to Gary Le Strange for making our lives just that little bit more inspired.
Bless you, Gary - you are so special and we love you.
Merry Christmas and an amazing New Year to you all!
See you in 2006 x x x x
