Inventions
I often have brilliant brainwaves which end up as ideas which would be sure to make me a fortune were I ever to have the courage of my convictions and actually got around to patenting it and developing it. (things such a the gizmo that you put on the top of your TV which scans the room for the reflections from the eyes of the people watching. If it detects that you fall asleep then it starts recording the film you were watching so that when you wake up you can re-wind and you need never miss the end of a film again). I was going to use this page to publish my inventions - what do I care if others actually steal my ideas and make their fortune but then I discovered HalfBakery.com and decided that I’ll put them there instead. I was never going to get around to doing it so they are welcome to them. If I help others along the way then so much the better.
Your Starter Invention A I often attend meetings at work where everyone has brought their laptop but there is only one video projector. Cue lots of, “Hand me that cable and I will show you my chart” then “let me have the projector for a moment and You can see what I mean”. Followed by lots of faffing about plugging unplugging and waiting for the projector to capture the video (with lots of “Is it Fn-F8 or Fn-F5 to turn projection on” and “I’ve pressed it once but nothing happend so I pressed it again and now my screen has gone blank”
My invention comes in a little box about the size of a DVD case. In it are five differently coloured podules and a remote control. One of these plugs into the projector and the other four are handed out to the people with laptops. They plug them into their VGA ports. The remote has four coloured buttons on it corresponding to the podules plugged into the laptops. Selecting podule “Red” activates that one to “talk” wirelessly to the podule on the projector. Whenever someone else wants to display something the appropriate button on the remote control is pressed.
My Second Invention for you I got this one in a dream. It turns out that there is already a patent on it out there already but I haven’t see any product on the market yet.
It is a PCMCIA printer. Very small format - just big enough to print small labels or security pass type credit card sized slips of paper - just like the Instant photo printers that you can get from polaroid just now.
To supplement this - for those laptops that do not have PCMCIA slots it is a USB to PCMCIA adaptor. I haver seen some of these on the market but they appear to be pre-designed for WiFi PCMCIA cards.
By the way - did you know that the Acronym PCMCIA stands for “People Cannot Memorise Computer Industry Acronyms” - don’t let anyone tell you different.
