Top Tips to keep your block paving in
good order
1. In the spring when the weather is going to be dry for a few days, put
down a good quality weed killer such as Path-clear. Most weed killers
work best when they can be applied and left for a few days without any
rain. Leave the weed killer to work for a week before cleaning.
2. Pressure Clean your block paving, this may take more time than you
first anticipated and is dependent upon the type of pressure washer &
surface cleaner you have.
3. Leave the blocks to dry out completely, I will repeat this, the
blocks must be completely dry, this includes the sides of the blocks as
well as the top. This is critical to ensure that the kiln dried jointing
sand will fill all the joints and lock the blocks together.
4. Purchase from your local builders merchants a good quality kiln dried
sand. 1 bag should be enough to complete a 2 car drive. Using a soft
broom brush the sand into the joints across the block pavers. Ensure
that all joints are completely filled with the sand. Finish off by
brushing away the surplus sand or use a garden blower.
5. Now that your block paving is looking good it is well worth
considering applying a joint stabiliser. This will bind the sand
particles together and also to the side of the block pavers. This will
eliminate any further weed growth.
6. Be very, very careful when choosing a company to seal your block
paving. A cheap sealant will either only last about a year or at worst
blister, ruining your entire block paving. It is very difficult and
costly to remove an existing sealant that has blistered. The world
leaders in sealants for block paving are Resiblock, you can visit their
