To get your dog used to the clicker method if he has been trained the conventional way you must refer to the section on HOW DO I GET STARTED on the frequently asked questions section. Once he is associating the clicker with a reward you can start trick training.

SPIN.
Put a food lure on the dog's nose and slowly move it in a circle round the dog so that Fido follows it and thus does a spin. Click and treat. When he is doing this consistently add the cue word SPIN. Try going in either direction. Eventually tighten up the area of spin, do multiple spins and hey presto Fido is doing it on command. Perfect the trick by standing up and moving away from the dog as he spins.

ROLLOVER.
Get your dog in a down. Put a food lure near the dog's mouth to one side and lure him so that he is looking backwards over his own shoulder. Follow it through with the treat so that the dog flops over onto his back. Click and Treat for small efforts. Eventually your dog should roll over by himself, now add the cue word ROLLOVER and immediately Click and Treat.

GIVE A PAW.
Sit your dog in front of you and put a piece of food into a clenched fist close to the floor. Sit and wait and do nothing. Fido will sniff or lick your hand but still do nothing. Eventually he will raise a paw to touch your hand. Open it and Click and Treat. In the following repititions slowly start to raise your fist higher and higher so that Fido has to reach up to touch your hand. Now add the cue word PAW.

WATCH ME.
Take a piece of food and with the dog sitting in front of you hold it on your face next to your eyes. Fido will follow it and momentarily will be looking into your face. Wait a couple of seconds and click treat. Extend the time between clicking and treating and then add the cue word WATCH ME. See how long you can get Fido's attention for. You will be amazed at how long you can achieve! This is great when you want to get a good photo of your pet and you want him to gaze into the camera lens!

BOW.
From a standing position put a piece of food on your dog's nose and lower it to the floor between his feet. If he goes down completely do not click treat. Try again and this time support him under his tummy with your hand so that the front of him is on the floor and his rump is up in the air! Immediately click and treat. For little dogs you can use a lead round their tummy to support their middle while they are learning the trick. Eventually add the cue word BOW. For very large dogs you may need the help of a friend to achieve this trick!

CRAWL.
Put the dog into a down. Lure Fido with a piece of food between his front paws, slowly move it away from him towards you and click and treat any forward action from your dog. You may need to keep a hand on his back to keep him on the floor. Inch by inch gradually increase the distance the food is moved in front of the dog and when he is reliably crawling forward add the cue word CRAWL.

ALL THE FOREGOING NEEDS LOTS OF PATIENCE, MAKE IT FUN FOR YOUR POOCH AND NEVER GET CROSS. IF YOU GET FRUSTRATED STOP AND TRY ANOTHER DAY.

ALL TRAINING SESSIONS SHOULD BE SHORT AND ALWAYS END ON A GOOD NOTE.
