Ozzie's Odyssey

I got Ozzie from the same rescue society as Sam, Mutts in Distress. He was 8 weeks old. Never having owned a JR before boy was I in for a culture shock! What a lively and excitable little boy he is but SO CLEVER. Whatever he does he does it at top speed.

I took him to agility classes and he loved it. A bat out of hell best describes his performance. I have high hopes for him in competition this coming year. Of course if I could get a leg and a brain transplant he would probably do even better!

I have trained him using the clicker method and his response has been immediate. He just loves to work! In addition to all the basics he does a terrific tail chase, attacks feet on command (often asked for in films) begs, walks on hind legs, rollsover, speaks on command by hand signal, holds anything in his mouth and can usually perform whatever action is required for the part. It was natural that he should follow his mentor Sam into showbusiness!

Oz adores being an actor and dreams of making it big in Hollywood someday! He says he couldn't have achieved what he has done so far without the support and encouragement of his two mentors Toby and especially Sam. He would also like to thank his owner and trainer Kay!

His first featured role was in Jonathan Creek for the BBC. He had to bark and then attack the actors feet, chasing him into the kitchen. He did it brilliantly! He has also done a title sequence for Ainsley Harriot's meals in moments as well as other bits. Because he is so photogenic he is often used in advertising and his first big campaign was for The NatWest Bank. I had the pleasure of seeing him on huge billboards over the London area as well as in the banks. He went on to do all the advertising introductions for Channel Four's Frasier Night and a commercial for The BBC Knowledge Dinosaur Day.

The funniest so far has been the Jaffa Cake commercial. Oz had to do an obstacle course all wrong to get a Jaffa Cake but in the end the owner eats it himself instead of giving it to the dog! He is in Leprachauns, a television mini-series, several more stills shoots including Orange phones, Sony and AppleMaC computers.

When they lauched the film 'My Dog Skip' in the U.K. Oz was chosen as the British lookalike and did promotional work which included a short piece together with Sam and Benson another doggy actor friend for ITV The Big Picture in which they reviewed the film. He is due to be seen soon in a big advertising campaign for Sainsburys who are going into the mobile phone network business, and in December he is starting work on a film about H.G.Wells.

When interviewed by London Tonight about him I was asked if he liked acting. I said he loved it otherwise he would not want to do it. Then they asked if fame has gone to his head to which I replied that sometimes he insists on wearing dark glasses when he goes out!
