Update on Flint. June 04.
Flint really is a lovely gentle dog. He has settled in well with Debbie and her family. However, one little vice has come to light!!!!!
Having got his paws under the table he showed himself to be a bit of an escape artist!
Whether he was a latch key dog before being rescued or perhaps he always has had a tendency to wander is not known! He has been neutured!
He has escaped several times causing Deb and her partner to go out searching for him. Fortunately, the first time he was spotted and tracked down. The second occasion he was taken to the local vet and his microchip identified him thank goodness and so he was able to be returned. Gradually though this has lessened. I think that now he has a loving and secure home it will stop completely in time.
My two grown up daughters are dog lovers and the eldest has just taken on a rescue dog from the local shelter. His name is Flint and he is a 3 year old crossbreed dog.My youngest already had a dog, a jack russell/yorkie cross called Sophie now nearly 14 years old. She too has taken on a rescue pup and called her Lucy. I shall relate Lucy's sad tale in another article for the site.
Flint had been in the Birmingham Dogs Home and to get him adopted had been transferred down to Royston and the local society.
He would appear to have very few vices! Being that much older he does not jump up at visitors, is housetrained and has a nice nature. He gets on well with Debbie's two children who adore him and all in all he is thoroughly spoilt!
Debbie came to visit with him. He is her first dog and has already started to clicker train him and as is usually the case he is responding well. However, one little problem surfaced when meeting my three hooligans! He greets other dogs nicely and has no aggression but will try and 'hump' them when he gets the chance! He has already been neutured so this could be either a dominance or anxiety issue.
Time will tell and Debbie watches him with other animals and hopefully in time his enthusiasm will wane!!!!!
For the first time dog though he would appear to be an ideal pet. Obviously he has not got his paws firmly under the table yet and a rescue dog's true nature does not appear for about three months. He wants to keep his loving new place but Debbie has the patience to iron out any little glitches and he truly has a wonderful forever home now!
